A poll from StudyFinds suggests Fall is the overwhelming favorite for best season. 51% of the people polled said Autumn was their preferred season.

Many folks attribute their fondness for Fall to the cooler weather, colorful leaves, festivals, fairs, and Halloween. That made us wonder, where are the best places to see Autumn in all of its splendor? Here’s our list of the Best Places for Fall Getaways based on sightseeing, weather, and affordability:


The mainland’s northernmost state offers a quintessential fall experience. The Autumn colors in New England are the stuff of legend and the Portland area is arguably the greatest place in the nation to view fall scenery.
