Southbound: Americans are Flocking to the South
The South is in an era of revitalization and a lot of that can be credited to folks who are packing their bags and moving to states like Florida, Texas, Georgia, and North Carolina.
But what’s the reason behind this exodus from other parts of the country? Well, money is definitely a factor. It’s less expensive to live in the southeastern United States — not to mention the wonderful weather.
LendingTree took an in-depth look at these migration patterns by reviewing over 2 million new purchase mortgage loan requests from Americans in all 50 states.
Here’s a look at the most popular out-of-state moving destinations, according to LendingTree:
South Carolina
Florida
Delaware
Georgia
North Carolina
Despite moving to another state, most Americans aren’t moving very far. In fact, more than half of the people leaving for a new state are moving to a bordering state.

By virtue of their size, Florida and Texas manages to keep a lot of residents inside state lines. More than 90% of the people with a mortgage loan request in Texas wanted to stay inside of the Lone Star State.
These trends show that the South is quickly becoming a haven for an increased number of Americans. Luckily, we know someone in the moving business!
